Banto, the village belle, had reached the prime of her youth. It was no surprise that young men of the village like Khushal Chand, Nihal Chand and Dayal Chand had lost their hearts to her, though she responded to none. When Shyam came by, however, Banto lost her heart to him.

Unfortunately, Banto’s father Devaji firmly stands in the way of their love. When he comes to know that the lovers have been meeting in secret, he is besides himself with rage, and his grief ultimately proves fatal to him.

Banto’s father earned his livelihood by singing in marriage functions. He had an invitation to sing at the marriage of Dr. Kishan, son of Dr. Dina Nath. His illness prevents him from fulfilling this obligation, throwing Banto into a fix. With no money to buy medicine for her ailing father, Banto decides to sing and dance to earn a livelihood.

In the midst of the marriage celebrations, Banto feels Dr. Dina Nath’s eyes on her as she performs. Terrified, she runs away, and Dr. Dina Nath follows her. At home, Deva and Dr. Dina Nath have a heated exchange, and it is revealed that Banto is the biological daughter of Dr. Dina Nath. Ultimately, Dr. Dina Nath takes his long lost daughter home with him.
